Earn PDUs By Self-Directed Learning

The PMP^® certification cycle lasts three years. During this time, you must attain no less than 60 professional development units (PDUs) toward credential maintenance. Upon successful completion of a single cycle, a new, three-year cycle begins. If you earn more than the required PDUs in your CCR (Continuing Certification Requirements) cycle, you may apply up to 20 PDUs to your next certification/CCR cycle. However, only PDUs earned in the final year (12 months) of your certification cycle can be transferred. There are people who target earning 80 PDUs in a three year cycle.

You can earn PDUs by conducting a self-directed learning activity, which is similar to preparing a homework for a course. In a three-year cycle, at most 30 PDUs can be earned by self-directed learning activities.

Project Management Processes Of PMI^® (30 PDUs)

One can earn 30 PDUs by completing this self-directed learning activity. The participant is going to decide what the start date of the activity is going to be. The participant spends a total of 30 hours (estimated) during this activity. A reasonable aim would be performing this activity in a 6 week period, spending an average of 5 hours per week.

In the first stage, the participant chooses a sample project. This can be something completely fictitious or a project the participant is working on. With the help of the consultant, the participant figures out the work performed at each project management process defined by PMI^®. The necessary documents are prepared which include a plan prepared using the Microsoft Project or another tool. It is recommended that the participant communicates frequently with the consultant via e-mail or telephone.
